FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Jaguars a B. The war room fell hard for Javon Baker, and it showed at the 115th overall pick: 71 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Eboigbe pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots still on the board. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
On value alone, Dial makes the weekend a net positive.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In the Round 1 slot they get a potential shutdown corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick53
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier in pick 53 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick79
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at No. 79 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick96
Rnd3
Darius Robinson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Darius Robinson in the 96th overall pick, miles early. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick115
Rnd4
Javon Baker
They left a pile of value on the table to take Javon Baker this early at slot 115. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick117
Rnd4
Justin Eboigbe
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went edge rusher with Justin Eboigbe while clear needs at interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots sat open.
Pick152
Rnd5
Jaylen Wright
They liked Jaylen Wright enough to skip the value, taking him in the 152nd overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick155
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III in pick 155 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick195
Rnd6
Christian Jones
A reach for Christian Jones in No. 195; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick211
Rnd6
Marcellas Dial
The board had Marcellas Dial higher than Round 6, Pick 36, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick234
Rnd7
J.J. Weaver
They went early on J.J. Weaver in the Round 7 slot, and the value did not follow. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
