FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the 49ers: B. Thirty-one other rooms let TreVeyon Henderson slide, and the 49ers were the ones holding the card at the Round 3 slot. Highway robbery. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The cost of the Bassa reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Kelvin Banks Jr.
In pick No. 11 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick44
Rnd2
Tyleik Williams
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tyleik Williams in Round 2, Pick 12. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick75
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at pick No. 75 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick100
Rnd3
Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa in the Round 3 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick113
Rnd4
Tai Felton
Tai Felton at the 113th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick138
Rnd4
Jacob Parrish
Jacob Parrish slid further than he should have, and Round 4, Pick 36 is lovely value for the cornerback. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick147
Rnd5
Kobe King
Kobe King in slot 147 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick174
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
A reach for JJ Pegues in the 174th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick177
Rnd6
Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II at No. 177 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick206
Rnd6
Jordan Hancock
They paid up for Jordan Hancock at pick 206 when waiting would have done the job. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick227
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards in pick 227 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick249
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
A slide stopped in slot 249, with Isaac TeSlaa worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick252
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
They jumped the gun on Jackson Hawes, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
