PrimetimePhil DRAFTING FOR THECowboys

Draft Grade — Cowboys

FutureB-
The Cowboys let Shough fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. Somebody in slot 171 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Tyler Shough, the No. 141 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. The cost of the Hemingway reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In the Round 1 slot they get a lead back with juice, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick44
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
They barely believed it either: Walter Nolen still on the board at the 44th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
They robbed the room for Jayden Higgins here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick149
Rnd5
Cody Simon
Cody Simon in pick No. 149 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick171
Rnd5
Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough in the 171st overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick174
Rnd5
Kalel Mullings
A tidy bit of business in pick 174, where Kalel Mullings graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Pick204
Rnd6
Alijah Huzzie
A reach on Alijah Huzzie in No. 204; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick211
Rnd6
Caleb Rogers
Caleb Rogers slipping to Round 6, Pick 35 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick239
Rnd7
Tonka Hemingway
A premium they did not need to pay, Tonka Hemingway a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick247
Rnd7
Cody Lindenberg
Cody Lindenberg at the 247th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
