Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall B
ValueC NeedB TradesA+ FutureC-
The Buccaneers worked the phones like thieves and earned a B.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Buccaneers would have aced it. Derrick Moore at the Round 2 slot is 65 spots clear of where he belonged. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

The Winston Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

The Buccaneers paired the rookies with proven help, Budda Baker leading the way.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Emery Jones Jr.
In No. 31 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick59 Rnd2 Derrick Moore
Derrick Moore at pick 59 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick97 Rnd3 Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman at slot 97 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick126 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
Circle this one: Kevin Winston Jr. at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick146 Rnd5 Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in pick No. 146 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick164 Rnd5 Nic Anderson
Nic Anderson at Round 5, Pick 26 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It fills a real need, too.
