Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
Larceny in No. 187 lands the Patriots a B+, McCaffrey and all.

Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Patriots came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.

McCaffrey at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. If Laube pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick34 Rnd2 Cooper DeJean
Cooper DeJean in pick No. 34 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick68 Rnd3 Kingsley Suamataia
A quiet steal in the 68th pick: Kingsley Suamataia for less than the market said. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick136 Rnd4 Dylan Laube
Dylan Laube in pick 136 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick187 Rnd6 Luke McCaffrey
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Luke McCaffrey in slot 187, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick229 Rnd7 Nathan Thomas
Somehow Nathan Thomas was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 9, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
