FutureB
Best value of the weekend goes to the Raiders for Sampson: C. The Raiders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Dylan Sampson fell into slot 94. Call it a C and check back in two years.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They are betting Campbell proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Jihaad Campbell
In pick No. 25 they get a three-down second-level presence, though they paid up to get him.
Pick33
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kenneth Grant in slot 33. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick37
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
They went early on Aireontae Ersery in the 37th pick, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick58
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Steal is underselling it; Omarion Hampton at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick67
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins in pick 67 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick68
Rnd3
Jaylin Noel
Good price on Jaylin Noel in Round 3, Pick 4, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick94
Rnd3
Dylan Sampson
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Dylan Sampson in No. 94, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick104
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
They did well to land Kevin Winston Jr. in the 104th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick108
Rnd4
Anthony Belton
Anthony Belton at slot 108 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick143
Rnd5
Kyle McCord
A quarterback of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 5 is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick166
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
The board had Bhayshul Tuten higher than pick No. 166, and the running back fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
Pick180
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dont'e Thornton Jr.. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick213
Rnd6
Oronde Gadsden II
Circle this one: Oronde Gadsden II at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick215
Rnd6
Caleb Ransaw
A tidy bit of business in pick 215, where Caleb Ransaw graded well above the range. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick222
Rnd7
Bilhal Kone
Bilhal Kone at the 222nd overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
