FutureA
A solid, sensible weekend for the Chiefs: B. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Chiefs shredded theirs for Hayden Hatten. He came off 72 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Anfernee Jennings gives the group a proven body among the projects. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick57
Rnd2
Mekhi Wingo
They went early on Mekhi Wingo in the 57th overall pick, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick66
Rnd3
Jack Sawyer
Jack Sawyer at Round 3, Pick 2 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick89
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in the 89th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick125
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
No edge and no loss on Smael Mondon Jr. in pick No. 125; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick139
Rnd5
Jack Nelson
Jack Nelson at No. 139 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick167
Rnd5
Zy Alexander
Fair-plus on Zy Alexander, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick171
Rnd5
Theo Johnson
A conviction pick on Theo Johnson at the Round 5 slot that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick175
Rnd5
Cody Schrader
By-the-book stuff, Cody Schrader at No. 175 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick203
Rnd6
Hayden Hatten
Hayden Hatten in the 203rd overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick246
Rnd7
Xavier Thomas
Xavier Thomas at pick 246 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
