Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
Larceny in the 176th pick lands the 49ers a D, Jones and all.

Somebody in the 176th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The 49ers sat still while Elijah Jones, the No. 116 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

They are betting McCormick proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Byron Murphy II
Nothing to complain about; Byron Murphy II went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick31 Rnd1 Troy Fautanu
In No. 31 they get an anchor for the offensive line at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick51 Rnd2 Xavier Worthy
They took Xavier Worthy at par in pick No. 51, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick63 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
A clean, defensible pick in slot 63 with a little surplus value in Payton Wilson. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick84 Rnd3 Ricky Pearsall
Somehow Ricky Pearsall was still sitting there in the 84th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94 Rnd3 Cam Hart
Cam Hart in the 94th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick98 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
No drama and no debate, Brenden Rice went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 35. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick124 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
A straight-up fair deal on Ben Sinnott at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick131 Rnd4 Mason McCormick
They went early on Mason McCormick in No. 131, and the value did not follow. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick133 Rnd4 Isaac Guerendo
A reasonable price with a little left over, Isaac Guerendo in slot 133. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick176 Rnd6 Elijah Jones
You do not let a cornerback like Elijah Jones reach pick No. 176 and blink. They did not. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick211 Rnd6 Tanner McLachlan
Tanner McLachlan in pick 211 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
Pick215 Rnd6 Nathaniel Watson
A tidy little value on Nathaniel Watson in the Round 6 slot, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick251 Rnd7 Ryan Flournoy
Ryan Flournoy in the 251st overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
