Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall

FutureC+
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Steelers a B-. The Charles Turner III pick is the one that will follow the Steelers into the fall. They took him 41 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
They banked enough surplus on Jones to cover a lot of smaller sins. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Job largely done: safety settled and 4 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In pick No. 20 they get a building block for the line at fair value. More want than need.
Pick51
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
A tidy little value on Xavier Worthy in Round 2, Pick 19, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
Pick84
Rnd3
Andru Phillips
Andru Phillips at the 84th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick103
Rnd4
Kamren Kinchens
They did well to land Kamren Kinchens in No. 103, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick119
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick137
Rnd5
Johnny Wilson
The board had Johnny Wilson higher than the 137th pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick178
Rnd6
Christian Jones
You do not let an offensive lineman like Christian Jones reach the 178th overall pick and blink. They did not. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick195
Rnd6
Kalen King
By-the-book stuff, Kalen King at No. 195 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick220
Rnd6
Charles Turner III
Charles Turner III at slot 220 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick246
Rnd7
Julian Pearl
They barely believed it either: Julian Pearl still on the board at pick 246. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
