The board owed the Bills one, and it paid up: John Mateer, the No. 136 name on the board, sitting there at the 171st pick like a gift left on the doorstep.

They will regret leaving offensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Linebacker is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
