Kiser should have been long gone. The Cardinals pounced, and earned a B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cardinals were there to profit. Jack Kiser, the No. 176 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 225. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Every board in the league had Wells Jr. lower, and that gap is the story. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In the 16th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick47
Rnd2
Josaiah Stewart
Josaiah Stewart at No. 47 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick78
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
They took Donovan Jackson at par in the 78th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick115
Rnd4
Aeneas Peebles
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Aeneas Peebles well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick152
Rnd5
Antwane Wells Jr.
Antwane Wells Jr. at slot 152 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick225
Rnd7
Jack Kiser
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jack Kiser in pick 225, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
