Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall
D-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesF
FutureC
Kinchens should have been long gone. The Cardinals pounced, and earned a D-. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Cardinals started one anyway for Darius Robinson, 33 picks ahead of schedule. Put together, it is a D-.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. With quarterback unsolved, spending premium capital on TE-EDGE is the choice that costs them. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Kinchens.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
No edge and no loss on Dallas Turner in slot 13; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick27
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 35th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick57
Rnd2
Quinyon Mitchell
Circle this one: Quinyon Mitchell at pick 57 is a fall that decides a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick66
Rnd3
Braden Fiske
A reach on Braden Fiske in slot 66; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
Pick67
Rnd3
Xavier Worthy
The board fumbled Xavier Worthy all the way to No. 67, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick71
Rnd3
Malachi Corley
Malachi Corley in pick No. 71 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick73
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
They took Christian Haynes at par in the 73rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick77
Rnd3
Kamren Kinchens
Kamren Kinchens at Round 3, Pick 13 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick88
Rnd3
Darius Robinson
They talked themselves into Darius Robinson at the 88th pick, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick96
Rnd3
Cade Stover
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cade Stover at TE-EDGE with quarterback open.
Pick105
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in pick 105 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick115
Rnd4
DJ James
A surprising call. With quarterback still to address, they spent the 115th pick on DJ James, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick117
Rnd4
Beau Brade
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Beau Brade in No. 117 leaves quarterback for later.
Pick126
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
They robbed the room for Blake Fisher here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick133
Rnd4
Malik Washington
Malik Washington at pick No. 133 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick135
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback to take Cole Bishop, a safety that was not the priority.
Pick137
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg in Round 5, Pick 1 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick152
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
Good price on Ben Sinnott in the 152nd overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
Pick154
Rnd5
Cody Schrader
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cody Schrader in the Round 5 slot, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick158
Rnd5
Justin Eboigbe
You do not let an edge rusher like Justin Eboigbe reach the 158th pick and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick168
Rnd5
Logan Lee
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Logan Lee at No. 168 is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick181
Rnd6
Andrew Coker
Andrew Coker at pick No. 181 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick188
Rnd6
Eric Watts
No drama and no debate, Eric Watts went about where he belonged in the Round 6 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick191
Rnd6
Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright at Round 6, Pick 16 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick203
Rnd6
Chau Smith-Wade
They barely believed it either: Chau Smith-Wade still on the board at the 203rd overall pick. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick207
Rnd6
Omar Brown
Omar Brown in pick 207 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick222
Rnd7
Marcellas Dial
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Marcellas Dial in slot 222, plain and simple. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick224
Rnd7
Michael Wiley
They will replay Michael Wiley at slot 224 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick234
Rnd7
Aki Ogunbiyi
Aki Ogunbiyi in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick243
Rnd7
Erick All
They read the board right and Erick All was the payoff at pick No. 243. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick247
Rnd7
Brian Ugwu
Brian Ugwu slipping to Round 7, Pick 27 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick251
Rnd7
Isaiah Neyor
Isaiah Neyor in the 251st overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
