Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureC-
The Cardinals got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-.

The Tahj Washington pick is the one that will follow the Cardinals into the fall. They took him 137 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through linebacker.

Mitchell falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 4th overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick27 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35 Rnd2 JC Latham
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing JC Latham in pick 35. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick66 Rnd3 Quinyon Mitchell
Quinyon Mitchell at pick No. 66 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick71 Rnd3 T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat is a better player than the 71st pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick90 Rnd3 Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at No. 90 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick104 Rnd4 Roman Wilson
Somehow Roman Wilson was still sitting there in pick No. 104, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick111 Rnd4 Michael Pratt
A slide stopped in No. 111, with Michael Pratt worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick133 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
The board fumbled Blake Fisher all the way to the 133rd pick, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick140 Rnd5 Chau Smith-Wade
This one needs a full-page explanation: Chau Smith-Wade in the 140th overall pick, miles early. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick147 Rnd5 Austin Booker
Austin Booker in slot 147 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick160 Rnd5 Cody Schrader
Cody Schrader at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick162 Rnd5 Delmar Glaze
A reach for Delmar Glaze in pick 162; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick168 Rnd5 Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in Round 5, Pick 32, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick188 Rnd6 Brevyn Spann-Ford
Brevyn Spann-Ford at Round 6, Pick 13 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick206 Rnd6 Gabe Hall
Gabe Hall in pick No. 206 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick225 Rnd7 Tahj Washington
Tahj Washington at No. 225 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick227 Rnd7 Walter Rouse
They reached into another round for Walter Rouse, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
