Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall

FutureA+
The Dolphins drew a line under the quarterback search with Mendoza: D+. Somebody in No. 220 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Dolphins sat still while Jordyn Tyson, the No. 13 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Put together, it is a D+.
Whatever Fernando Mendoza becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The Wheatley reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In slot 1 they get a long-term answer under center, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick17
Rnd1
Chris Brazzell II
In the 17th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick25
Rnd1
Kadyn Proctor
In pick No. 25 they get a long-term starter on the line at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick35
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
No drama and no debate, Jake Slaughter went about where he belonged in pick 35. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick66
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley at the 66th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick75
Rnd3
Joe Royer
The board had cheaper options than Joe Royer at Round 3, Pick 11, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick110
Rnd4
LaNorris Sellers
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, LaNorris Sellers in the Round 4 slot, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick117
Rnd4
Jaeden Roberts
Somehow Jaeden Roberts was still sitting there in slot 117, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick173
Rnd5
Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson at No. 173 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick220
Rnd7
Jordyn Tyson
Taking Jordyn Tyson in the 220th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
