FutureB+
Grand theft in the Round 7 slot: the 49ers steal Sheppard and grade out a B+. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The 49ers came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
The Sheppard value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The veteran additions, Ali Marpet chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In the 27th pick they get a double-digit-sack hope. A real need, handled.
Pick90
Rnd3
Michael Pratt
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Michael Pratt. The roster fit checks out.
Pick127
Rnd4
Javion Cohen
Javion Cohen slipping to slot 127 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick205
Rnd6
Bru McCoy
Bru McCoy in pick No. 205 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick213
Rnd6
Tre Harris
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tre Harris at the 213th overall pick is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick215
Rnd6
Jordan Whittington
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jordan Whittington at pick 215. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick223
Rnd7
Robert Lewis
A reasonable price with a little left over, Robert Lewis in No. 223. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick226
Rnd7
Dorian Singer
A slide stopped in the 226th pick, with Dorian Singer worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick248
Rnd7
Will Sheppard
Will Sheppard at Round 7, Pick 28 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
