Draft Grade — Texans
Overall D-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Texans to a D-.

The phones were a trap the Texans kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They are betting Price proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Dontay Corleone
In the 28th overall pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick38 Rnd2 Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price at the Round 2 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick59 Rnd2 Caleb Tiernan
Caleb Tiernan in pick 59 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick69 Rnd3 Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers at pick No. 69 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick106 Rnd4 Jack Endries
Fair-plus on Jack Endries, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick128 Rnd4 Eli Raridon
Eli Raridon at Round 4, Pick 28 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick130 Rnd4 CJ Daniels
A straight-up fair deal on CJ Daniels at No. 130, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick165 Rnd5 Red Murdock
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Red Murdock. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick243 Rnd7 Ricardo Hallman
They did well to land Ricardo Hallman in the 243rd pick, just ahead of his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
