Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Steelers let Robertson fall and pounced. Final grade: B-.

You build a draft on nights like this. Sawyer Robertson had no business being available in Round 6, Pick 34, and the Steelers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

Beck has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Lew pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher still on the board.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Jordyn Tyson
In slot 21 they get a weapon on the perimeter, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick53 Rnd2 Carson Beck
Carson Beck at No. 53 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick76 Rnd3 Drew Shelton
They paid a round early for Drew Shelton in the 76th overall pick, more than the board wanted. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick85 Rnd3 Connor Lew
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Connor Lew adds an offensive lineman and leaves edge rusher untouched.
Pick99 Rnd3 Genesis Smith
The board had Genesis Smith higher than pick No. 99, and the safety fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick121 Rnd4 Tim Keenan III
Tim Keenan III at the Round 4 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick135 Rnd4 Kyle Louis
A conviction pick on Kyle Louis at Round 4, Pick 35 that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick159 Rnd5 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Jermaine Mathews Jr. at pick 159 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick213 Rnd6 Sawyer Robertson
Sawyer Robertson in slot 213 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick214 Rnd6 Jaren Kanak
Taking Jaren Kanak in pick 214 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick224 Rnd7 Barion Brown
Value with a capital V on Barion Brown in Round 7, Pick 8, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick237 Rnd7 Desmond Reid
Desmond Reid at No. 237 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
