A sensible, unshowy class lands the Lions a B. The Lions torched the value chart for Trey Moore, taking him 55 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
The Hurst value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. That linebacker hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Avieon Terrell
In pick No. 17 they get an island corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick50
Rnd2
Gennings Dunker
Gennings Dunker at the 50th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick118
Rnd4
Mikail Kamara
This one needs a full-page explanation: Mikail Kamara in No. 118, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick128
Rnd4
Ted Hurst
A quiet steal in Round 4, Pick 28: Ted Hurst for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick157
Rnd5
Trey Moore
Trey Moore at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick181
Rnd5
Jalen Stroman
Jalen Stroman at the 181st pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick205
Rnd6
Josh Moten
No edge and no loss on Josh Moten in No. 205; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick213
Rnd6
Jeremiah Wright
Jeremiah Wright at pick 213 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick222
Rnd7
Connor Tollison
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Connor Tollison well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
