mtpallas DRAFTING FOR THESeahawks
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Seahawks: B-. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Seahawks spent pick 172 on Howard Cross III, a name the board had a full 50 spots lower. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
On value alone, Sanders makes the weekend a net positive. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Thomas pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and quarterback still on the board.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Wyatt Milum
In No. 18 they get a building block for the line, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick50
Rnd2
Demetrius Knight Jr.
They went early on Demetrius Knight Jr. in pick 50, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick52
Rnd2
Zy Alexander
They talked themselves into Zy Alexander at slot 52, and the board did not agree. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick82
Rnd3
T.J. Sanders
T.J. Sanders in the 82nd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Pick92
Rnd3
Azareye'h Thomas
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Azareye'h Thomas in pick No. 92 leaves edge rusher and quarterback for later.
Pick137
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at Round 4, Pick 35 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick172
Rnd5
Howard Cross III
Howard Cross III at pick No. 172 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick175
Rnd5
Willie Lampkin
They paid sticker price for Willie Lampkin in the 175th pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick223
Rnd7
Ben Yurosek
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ben Yurosek this early at pick 223. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick234
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
No drama and no debate, Isaac TeSlaa went about where he belonged in slot 234. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
