Draft Grade — Colts
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Colts won the night they stopped Starks from sliding. Grade: B-. You could see the war room lean forward. Malaki Starks at the Round 3 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Reaching for Hairston left real value on the table behind him. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Mykel Williams
In pick No. 14 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick45
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at No. 45 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick80
Rnd3
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks at pick 80 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick117
Rnd4
Jaylin Noel
You do not let a wide receiver like Jaylin Noel reach slot 117 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick151
Rnd5
Hollin Pierce
A tidy bit of business in the 151st pick, where Hollin Pierce graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick189
Rnd6
Quincy Riley
A slide stopped in Round 6, Pick 13, with Quincy Riley worth more than the price. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick232
Rnd7
Phil Mafah
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Phil Mafah at the 232nd overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
