Draft Grade — Colts
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The Colts won the night they stopped Starks from sliding. Grade: B-.

Somebody in pick 80 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Colts sat still while Malaki Starks, the No. 27 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

The Hairston pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Mykel Williams
In No. 14 they get a bendy edge with upside. A real need, handled.
Pick45 Rnd2 Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at pick No. 45 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick80 Rnd3 Malaki Starks
Steal is underselling it; Malaki Starks at the 80th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick117 Rnd4 Jaylin Noel
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 117th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick151 Rnd5 Hollin Pierce
The board had Hollin Pierce higher than the Round 5 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick189 Rnd6 Quincy Riley
Value with a capital V on Quincy Riley in Round 6, Pick 13, a genuine coup. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick232 Rnd7 Phil Mafah
Phil Mafah in slot 232 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
