Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureC
The 49ers robbed the room for Okunlola. Final grade: B.

The trade table was a mismatch, and the 49ers were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

Getting Okunlola where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Chaplin has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The veteran additions, Alex Highsmith chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Cam Coleman
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58 Rnd2 Will Heldt
They paid a round early for Will Heldt in Round 2, Pick 26, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
Pick92 Rnd3 Samson Okunlola
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Samson Okunlola in No. 92, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick127 Rnd4 Mateen Ibirogba
A reach on Mateen Ibirogba in pick 127; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick133 Rnd4 Justin Evans
Nice patience on Justin Evans, who had no business lasting to pick No. 133. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick138 Rnd4 Blake Frazier
They took Blake Frazier at par in slot 138, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick171 Rnd5 Amare Thomas
Amare Thomas in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick213 Rnd6 Elinneus Davis
A tidy little value on Elinneus Davis in No. 213, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick214 Rnd6 Xavier Chaplin
They left a pile of value on the table to take Xavier Chaplin this early at Round 6, Pick 35. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick224 Rnd7 Sammy Omosigho
They will replay Sammy Omosigho at the 224th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick237 Rnd7 Smith Snowden
Smith Snowden at slot 237 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
