Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureC
Cole should have been long gone. The 49ers pounced, and earned a B+.

You could see the war room lean forward. Chris Cole at the 58th pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. No fireworks, but a solid B+.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

The Saka pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Ahmad Hardy
In No. 31 they get a workhorse for the backfield, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58 Rnd2 Chris Cole
Chris Cole at pick No. 58 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Pick92 Rnd3 Anto Saka
They paid a round early for Anto Saka in the 92nd pick, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick127 Rnd4 Iapani Laloulu
Iapani Laloulu at the 127th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick138 Rnd4 Mateen Ibirogba
By-the-book stuff, Mateen Ibirogba at pick 138 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jacob Ponton
Jacob Ponton at Round 5, Pick 33 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick205 Rnd6 DeAndre Moore Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on DeAndre Moore Jr. at slot 205, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick251 Rnd7 Smith Snowden
Taking Smith Snowden in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick255 Rnd7 D'Antre Robinson
D'Antre Robinson in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
