Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Larceny in pick 181 lands the Chargers a B-, Brown and all.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Logan Brown tumbling to the Chargers in the Round 6 slot is a gift they did not have to think twice about. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

Reaching for Kennard left real value on the table behind him. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.

They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Mykel Williams
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick55 Rnd2 Kyle Kennard
A wild overpay on Kyle Kennard in pick 55, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick86 Rnd3 Cameron Williams
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cameron Williams at pick No. 86. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick125 Rnd4 Cody Simon
They took Cody Simon at par in slot 125, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick158 Rnd5 Ben Sauls
Ben Sauls in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick181 Rnd6 Logan Brown
Logan Brown in the 181st pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick199 Rnd6 Upton Stout
Upton Stout in No. 199 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick209 Rnd6 Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards at the 209th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick214 Rnd6 Luke Lachey
They did well to land Luke Lachey in pick No. 214, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick256 Rnd7 Roc Taylor
Roc Taylor in Round 7, Pick 40 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
