Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Grand theft in pick 94: the Browns steal Watts and grade out a B.

Call it larceny. Xavier Watts sat on the board until pick No. 94, and the Browns did not need to be asked twice. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

They are betting Downs proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. They went 8 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get a problem off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton in slot 33 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick67 Rnd3 Marcus Mbow
Marcus Mbow at the 67th overall pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick94 Rnd3 Xavier Watts
The board fumbled Xavier Watts all the way to No. 94, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick104 Rnd4 Jordan Phillips
They paid sticker price for Jordan Phillips in pick No. 104, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick179 Rnd6 Tyler Shough
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Tyler Shough in the Round 6 slot, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick192 Rnd6 Jack Kiser
They read the board right and Jack Kiser was the payoff at pick 192. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick200 Rnd6 Antwane Wells Jr.
Good price on Antwane Wells Jr. in the 200th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick216 Rnd6 Alijah Huzzie
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Alijah Huzzie. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick255 Rnd7 Ethan Downs
They reached a country mile for Ethan Downs at No. 255, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
