Grand theft in the Round 5 slot: the Chiefs steal Laumea and grade out a B-.

You could see the war room lean forward. Sataoa Laumea at No. 173 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

They are betting Johnson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Jordan Morgan
In the 32nd pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick64 Rnd2 DJ James
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing DJ James in Round 2, Pick 32. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick95 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
By-the-book stuff, Brenden Rice at pick 95 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick132 Rnd4 Justin Eboigbe
Justin Eboigbe at pick No. 132 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick159 Rnd5 Cornelius Johnson
Cornelius Johnson at slot 159 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick173 Rnd5 Sataoa Laumea
Sataoa Laumea in the Round 5 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick221 Rnd7 Kendall Milton
The board fumbled Kendall Milton all the way to No. 221, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
