Draft Grade — Steelers

FutureB-
The Steelers cashed the board's mistake on Vaki: B+. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Steelers were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
That Vaki pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Rosengarten pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, running back and other spots still on the board.
The Rosengarten reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick35
Rnd2
Amarius Mims
They read the board right and Amarius Mims was the payoff at the 35th overall pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick51
Rnd2
Roman Wilson
Good price on Roman Wilson in pick No. 51, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick66
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
They jumped the gun on Mike Sainristil, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick84
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
No edge and no loss on Michael Hall Jr. in pick 84; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick90
Rnd3
Jonah Elliss
A straight-up fair deal on Jonah Elliss at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick98
Rnd3
Javon Baker
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Javon Baker at Round 3, Pick 35 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick119
Rnd4
Roger Rosengarten
A curious use of pick 119. Quarterback, running back and other spots needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Roger Rosengarten did not.
Pick178
Rnd6
Sione Vaki
You do not let a safety like Sione Vaki reach pick No. 178 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick195
Rnd6
Ty'Ron Hopper
A slide stopped in No. 195, with Ty'Ron Hopper worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
