NEAC DRAFTING FOR THEPackers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Packers let Lloyd fall and pounced. Final grade: B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. MarShawn Lloyd, the No. 94 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 126.
Reaching for Gray left real value on the table behind him. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan in the 25th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick41
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
A conviction pick on T.J. Tampa at slot 41 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick58
Rnd2
Javon Bullard
They did well to land Javon Bullard in Round 2, Pick 26, just ahead of his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick88
Rnd3
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at No. 88 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick91
Rnd3
Roger Rosengarten
They paid sticker price for Roger Rosengarten in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick126
Rnd4
MarShawn Lloyd
MarShawn Lloyd in the 126th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick169
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
They paid up for Ty'Ron Hopper at pick 169 when waiting would have done the job. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick202
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
They paid a round early for Joe Milton III in pick No. 202, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick219
Rnd6
Garret Greenfield
A premium they did not need to pay, Garret Greenfield a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick245
Rnd7
Ryan Watts
Ryan Watts is a better player than slot 245 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick255
Rnd7
Jalen Sundell
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jalen Sundell well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
