If confidence were a draft strategy, the 49ers would have aced it. Elijah Rushing at the 208th overall pick is 39 spots clear of where he belonged. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.

Montgomery at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Kamren Kinchens pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
