The jury is out on the Patriots. For now, C+. The Patriots put a flag in the ground for Nazir Stackhouse, 38 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Hit on Will Campbell and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Will Campbell
No drama and no debate, Will Campbell went about where he belonged in slot 4. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick38
Rnd2
Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger at No. 38 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick69
Rnd3
Dylan Sampson
Good price on Dylan Sampson in pick 69, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick77
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
No edge and no loss on Ozzy Trapilo in pick No. 77; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick106
Rnd4
Jacob Parrish
A reach on Jacob Parrish in the 106th pick; the board had better options right there. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick144
Rnd5
Kyle Williams
They left a pile of value on the table to take Kyle Williams this early at Round 5, Pick 6. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick171
Rnd5
Nazir Stackhouse
Nazir Stackhouse at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick220
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
They jumped the gun on Isaac TeSlaa, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick238
Rnd7
Bilhal Kone
Bilhal Kone at No. 238 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
