The board owed the Cardinals one, and it paid up: Walter Nolen, the No. 21 name on the board, sitting there at slot 49 like a gift left on the doorstep. The bottom line is a respectable B.

They will need Buchanan to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
