Ants DRAFTING FOR THEBuccaneers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall
C+
ValueC-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A mixed bag for the Buccaneers, and a C+ to match. The Buccaneers clearly saw something nobody else did in Phillip Webb, taking him 104 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C+ in the wash.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
If Shemar Stewart and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Shemar Stewart
In the 19th pick they get a problem off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53
Rnd2
Quinn Ewers
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Quinn Ewers well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick84
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
A straight-up fair deal on Mason Taylor at Round 3, Pick 20, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick120
Rnd4
O'Donnell Fortune
By-the-book stuff, O'Donnell Fortune at pick 120 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick158
Rnd5
Que Robinson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Que Robinson. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick237
Rnd7
Phillip Webb
This one needs a full-page explanation: Phillip Webb in the 237th overall pick, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
