FutureA
The Saints leave the weekend clear winners: A-. The Saints' one glaring miss is edge rusher, a need they left exactly as they found it.
Reese at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The DeMario Douglas deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
They read the board right and Arvell Reese was the payoff at the 30th pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick41
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
A straight-up fair deal on Olaivavega Ioane at pick No. 41, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick62
Rnd2
Darrell Jackson Jr.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Darrell Jackson Jr. in the 62nd overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick72
Rnd3
Antonio Williams
The board had Antonio Williams higher than the Round 3 slot, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick94
Rnd3
Malik Muhammad
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Malik Muhammad at Round 3, Pick 30. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick132
Rnd4
Eugene Wilson III
By-the-book stuff, Eugene Wilson III at No. 132 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138
Rnd4
Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price at pick 138 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick147
Rnd5
Iapani Laloulu
A conviction pick on Iapani Laloulu at slot 147 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick171
Rnd5
Tanner Koziol
Fair-plus on Tanner Koziol, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick190
Rnd6
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Nothing to complain about; Jermaine Mathews Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
