Draft Grade — Jets
Overall D-
ValueC NeedA- TradesF FutureB-
Mendoza is the plan now, and the Jets grade out a D-.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Jets took Derrick Moore a full 48 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Whatever Fernando Mendoza becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In pick 1 they get their guy under center for the next decade, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. at pick No. 33 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick71 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
They paid sticker price for Michael Taaffe in the 71st pick, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick101 Rnd4 Derrick Moore
Derrick Moore at No. 101 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick140 Rnd4 Zane Durant
Zane Durant at slot 140 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick171 Rnd5 Evan Stewart
Evan Stewart at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
Pick183 Rnd6 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Jermaine Mathews Jr. slipping to pick 183 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick200 Rnd6 Raylen Wilson
By-the-book stuff, Raylen Wilson at Round 6, Pick 20 squarely in line with his ranking. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick201 Rnd6 Jalon Daniels
Jalon Daniels at the Round 6 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick256 Rnd7 PJ Williams
They paid up for PJ Williams at the 256th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick257 Rnd7 Elliot Washington II
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Elliot Washington II. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
