The Sherman reach set the tone, and the Seahawks never recovered: F. Nobody else had MJ Sherman anywhere near No. 236. The Seahawks did, by 45 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A weekend to file away and forget, and an F to match.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Solomon pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, linebacker and other spots.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with edge rusher still staring back at them.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
In pick No. 6 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the 9th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
They paid a round early for Ja'Tavion Sanders in No. 39, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick58
Rnd2
Kiran Amegadjie
Kiran Amegadjie in slot 58 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick59
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier at the 59th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick78
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
No edge and no loss on Cooper Beebe in pick 78; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick81
Rnd3
Javon Solomon
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 81 on Javon Solomon with edge rusher, linebacker and other spots unsolved.
Pick107
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
A straight-up fair deal on Ainias Smith at pick No. 107, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick118
Rnd4
Drake Nugent
A wild overpay on Drake Nugent in No. 118, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick122
Rnd4
Javon Foster
Javon Foster in the 122nd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick126
Rnd4
Jaylen Wright
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaylen Wright in the 126th pick, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick154
Rnd5
Jordan Jefferson
Value said wait; Jordan Jefferson in the Round 5 slot says they were not listening. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick194
Rnd6
Jaden Crumedy
Jaden Crumedy at slot 194 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Pick236
Rnd7
MJ Sherman
They left a pile of value on the table to take MJ Sherman this early at Round 7, Pick 16. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
