Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
Williams is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: D-.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Bears shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.

Everything downstream of Caleb Williams depends on Caleb Williams, and the building knows it. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Every board in the league had Foster lower, and that gap is the story.

On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In slot 1 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In No. 9 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick44 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chris Braswell. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick75 Rnd3 Xavier Legette
Nothing to complain about; Xavier Legette went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick77 Rnd3 Calen Bullock
A tidy little value on Calen Bullock in pick No. 77, a step better than break-even. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick111 Rnd4 Javon Foster
Javon Foster at pick 111 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick123 Rnd4 Josh Newton
Josh Newton in Round 4, Pick 23 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick143 Rnd5 Dylan Laube
No edge and no loss on Dylan Laube in the 143rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
