Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Saints a B+.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Saints took Kyle Williams a full 41 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Warren steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Jahdae Barron
A straight-up fair deal on Jahdae Barron at the 12th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick40 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
You do not let a tight end like Tyler Warren reach Round 2, Pick 8 and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick71 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson slipping to pick 71 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick76 Rnd3 Elic Ayomanor
Value with a capital V on Elic Ayomanor in pick No. 76, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick93 Rnd3 Jalen Milroe
By-the-book stuff, Jalen Milroe at slot 93 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick112 Rnd4 Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. in the Round 4 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick131 Rnd4 Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at pick 131 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick184 Rnd6 Clay Webb
Clay Webb in the 184th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick248 Rnd7 Jamon Dumas-Johnson
Jamon Dumas-Johnson at pick No. 248 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick254 Rnd7 Ty Hamilton
They took Ty Hamilton at par in the 254th pick, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
