Draft Grade — Commanders

FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Commanders to a D. The phones were a trap the Commanders kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Reaching for Holly left real value on the table behind him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
David Bailey
David Bailey at Round 1, Pick 7 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jake Golday
Jake Golday in pick 71 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick81
Rnd3
Darrell Jackson Jr.
They took Darrell Jackson Jr. at par in pick No. 81, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick97
Rnd3
Daylen Everette
Fair-plus on Daylen Everette, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick145
Rnd5
Kevin Coleman Jr.
Kevin Coleman Jr. at No. 145 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick185
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
A reach for Trey Zuhn III in slot 185; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick196
Rnd6
Barion Brown
A premium they did not need to pay, Barion Brown a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick223
Rnd7
Trey Holly
Trey Holly in the 223rd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
