Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
The Commanders let Klein fall and pounced. Final grade: B+.

Whoever sat across the table from the Commanders should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B+.

Landing Klein that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.

The Commanders paired the rookies with proven help, Travon Walker leading the way. The cost of the Payne reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Kenyon Sadiq
In pick No. 24 they get a security blanket over the middle at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Anthony Hill Jr. at the 39th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick70 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
Value with a capital V on Omar Cooper Jr. in pick 70, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick111 Rnd4 Tacario Davis
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tacario Davis at the Round 4 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick145 Rnd5 DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart in No. 145 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick185 Rnd6 VJ Payne
VJ Payne in Round 6, Pick 6 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick196 Rnd6 Marlin Klein
Marlin Klein at the 196th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick223 Rnd7 Jeff Caldwell
Jeff Caldwell at pick No. 223 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick248 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in slot 248 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
