You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Commanders did exactly that with Malachi Lawrence in pick No. 110.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
