FutureA
Cooper Jr. should have been long gone. The Commanders pounced, and earned a A-. The Commanders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Omar Cooper Jr. fell into slot 91. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
In the end it comes back to Sonny Styles, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In pick 30 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece. More want than need.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price at the 71st pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick91
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. in the Round 3 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick94
Rnd3
Daylen Everette
Daylen Everette slipping to No. 94 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick108
Rnd4
Darrell Jackson Jr.
A quiet steal in the 108th overall pick: Darrell Jackson Jr. for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick145
Rnd5
CJ Daniels
They read the board right and CJ Daniels was the payoff at Round 5, Pick 7. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick185
Rnd6
VJ Payne
VJ Payne at pick No. 185 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick196
Rnd6
Toriano Pride Jr.
They paid up for Toriano Pride Jr. at slot 196 when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick223
Rnd7
Kaden Wetjen
Kaden Wetjen at the 223rd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
