The Commanders cashed the board's mistake on Capehart: B. The Commanders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and DeMonte Capehart fell into pick No. 185.
Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with offensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In slot 11 they get a ballhawk on the back end, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Pick43
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles at Round 2, Pick 11 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick71
Rnd3
Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor slipping to pick No. 71 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick145
Rnd5
Cyrus Allen
The board fumbled Cyrus Allen all the way to pick 145, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick149
Rnd5
CJ Daniels
CJ Daniels in No. 149 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick185
Rnd6
DeMonte Capehart
Taking DeMonte Capehart in the 185th pick is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick196
Rnd6
Ephesians Prysock
The board had Ephesians Prysock higher than the Round 6 slot, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick223
Rnd7
Dalton Johnson
Steal is underselling it; Dalton Johnson at the 223rd overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick227
Rnd7
Oscar Delp
They will replay Oscar Delp at Round 7, Pick 11 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
