The Commanders kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

Nobody else had J. Michael Sturdivant anywhere near the Round 6 slot. The Commanders did, by 31 spots, and that gap is the whole story.

Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.

Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the 12th pick they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at fair value. More want than need.
Pick71 Rnd3 Gennings Dunker
Taking Gennings Dunker in Round 3, Pick 7 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick145 Rnd5 DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at slot 145 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick185 Rnd6 Bud Clark
They took Bud Clark at par in pick No. 185, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick196 Rnd6 J. Michael Sturdivant
A big swing on J. Michael Sturdivant at pick 196, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick223 Rnd7 Barion Brown
They did well to land Barion Brown in No. 223, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
