Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B-
ValueB NeedA- TradesD+ FutureB-
The Commanders robbed the room for Slaughter. Final grade: B-.

Call it larceny. Jake Slaughter sat on the board until the 82nd overall pick, and the Commanders did not need to be asked twice. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Kenyon Sadiq
In the 18th pick they get a seam-stretching tight end at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick71 Rnd3 Elijah Sarratt
You do not let a wide receiver like Elijah Sarratt reach No. 71 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick82 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at slot 82 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick97 Rnd3 Malik Muhammad
A tidy little value on Malik Muhammad in Round 3, Pick 33, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick145 Rnd5 DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart in pick No. 145 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick185 Rnd6 J'Mari Taylor
A tidy bit of business in the Round 6 slot, where J'Mari Taylor graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Pick196 Rnd6 Ted Hurst
Taking Ted Hurst in the 196th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick223 Rnd7 Thaddeus Dixon
Thaddeus Dixon is a better player than pick 223 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
