Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
The Commanders let Tate fall and pounced. Final grade: B+.

Somebody in slot 59 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Carnell Tate, the No. 9 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Peter Woods
In pick 31 they get juice off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick59 Rnd2 Carnell Tate
Carnell Tate at the 59th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick71 Rnd3 Dani Dennis-Sutton
They went early on Dani Dennis-Sutton in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick95 Rnd3 Brian Parker II
They barely believed it either: Brian Parker II still on the board at the 95th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick100 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
Nice patience on Zakee Wheatley, who had no business lasting to Round 3, Pick 36. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick131 Rnd4 Emmett Johnson
Steal is underselling it; Emmett Johnson at pick No. 131 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick185 Rnd6 Quintayvious Hutchins
The board had cheaper options than Quintayvious Hutchins at slot 185, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick196 Rnd6 Ephesians Prysock
Ephesians Prysock is a better player than No. 196 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick223 Rnd7 VJ Payne
VJ Payne in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick247 Rnd7 Bryce Foster
No edge and no loss on Bryce Foster in No. 247; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
