FutureA
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Commanders a A-. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Commanders were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
The Sturdivant pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The Wheatley pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end, edge rusher and other spots still on the board. The Thieneman pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In No. 26 they get a green-dot type in the middle at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick55
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
They will replay Dillon Thieneman at slot 55 for years; that is how good the value is. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick91
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
A curious use of the 91st pick. Tight end, edge rusher and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Zakee Wheatley did not.
Pick123
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
Tacario Davis at pick 123 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick145
Rnd5
Kevin Coleman Jr.
They paid sticker price for Kevin Coleman Jr. in Round 5, Pick 7, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick185
Rnd6
Charles Jagusah
Charles Jagusah at the 185th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick196
Rnd6
J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant at pick No. 196 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick223
Rnd7
PJ Williams
PJ Williams in the Round 7 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
