Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
B
ValueA-
NeedB
TradesC+
FutureB+
The Commanders let Banks fall and pounced. Final grade: B. The rest of the league will want that one back. Caleb Banks tumbling to the Commanders in the 71st pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Crawford pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In pick No. 18 they get a featured back, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick49
Rnd2
Chris Bell
Good price on Chris Bell in slot 49, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick71
Rnd3
Caleb Banks
They barely believed it either: Caleb Banks still on the board at Round 3, Pick 7. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick82
Rnd3
Max Klare
A tight end of that caliber at the 82nd pick is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick145
Rnd5
Beau Stephens
A tidy little value on Beau Stephens in the 145th overall pick, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick185
Rnd6
Bud Clark
By-the-book stuff, Bud Clark at pick 185 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick223
Rnd7
Keyron Crawford
They went early on Keyron Crawford in No. 223, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
