Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

The 49ers bet big and early on Iapani Laloulu, 34 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. However the rest shakes out, McKinney at that price is a win they earned.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Denzel Boston
In slot 25 they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick57 Rnd2 Darrell Jackson Jr.
Darrell Jackson Jr. at pick No. 57 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick89 Rnd3 Monroe Freeling
A big swing on Monroe Freeling at No. 89, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick125 Rnd4 Iapani Laloulu
They talked themselves into Iapani Laloulu at pick 125, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick133 Rnd4 Blake Miller
They took Blake Miller at par in the 133rd pick, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick139 Rnd4 DJ McKinney
A slide stopped in the 139th overall pick, with DJ McKinney worth more than the price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick172 Rnd5 Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp at Round 5, Pick 33 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
