Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB- TradesA+ FutureB
The Vikings cashed the board's mistake on Higgins: B+.

You build a draft on nights like this. Jay Higgins had no business being available in the Round 7 slot, and the Vikings did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

The veteran additions, Cooper DeJean chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick79 Rnd3 Zy Alexander
Fair-plus on Zy Alexander, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick98 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
The board had Donovan Jackson higher than the 98th pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick108 Rnd4 Joshua Farmer
Joshua Farmer in the 108th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick129 Rnd4 Billy Bowman Jr.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Billy Bowman Jr. at No. 129 is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick140 Rnd5 Brashard Smith
Steal is underselling it; Brashard Smith at the Round 5 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick161 Rnd5 Darius Alexander
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at pick 161 is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick162 Rnd5 Jackson Slater
Jackson Slater in slot 162 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick166 Rnd5 Logan Brown
Logan Brown at Round 5, Pick 27 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick226 Rnd7 Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins in slot 226 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor need, but a need all the same.
