Draft Grade — Falcons
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Falcons to a D.

The Falcons bet big and early on Jared Wilson, 35 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. However the rest shakes out, McMillan at that price is a win they earned.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 James Pearce Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge at fair value.
Pick33 Rnd2 Tetairoa McMillan
Tetairoa McMillan in slot 33 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick46 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
You do not let a safety like Malaki Starks reach pick 46 and blink. They did not. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick51 Rnd2 Harold Fannin Jr.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Harold Fannin Jr.. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at Round 3, Pick 3 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick98 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ozzy Trapilo in pick No. 98. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick118 Rnd4 Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips in Round 4, Pick 16 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick122 Rnd4 Jeffrey Bassa
By-the-book stuff, Jeffrey Bassa at pick No. 122 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick135 Rnd4 Nohl Williams
Nohl Williams slid further than he should have, and the Round 4 slot is lovely value for the cornerback. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick191 Rnd6 CJ West
A tidy little value on CJ West in the 191st overall pick, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick218 Rnd7 Nazir Stackhouse
Value with a capital V on Nazir Stackhouse in No. 218, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick242 Rnd7 Phil Mafah
Phil Mafah in pick 242 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
